Did the prophet Muhammad have close encounters? The question is less strange than it may sound. Across the contemporary Muslim world, questions concerning intelligent extraterrestrial life and the UFO phenomenon find significant cultural and theological resonance. Although they are not widely studied from this perspective, Islamic texts and doctrines provide a wide array of symbols, narratives, and specific examples that are sometimes used by Muslims (and others) to support the claim that intelligent extraterrestrial life exists and has interacted with humanity (Khan 2008; Allgood 2024; Agrama 2018). By comparison, the non-existence of intelligent extraterrestrial life is a key tenet among many evangelical Christian writers on the UFO phenomenon. These evangelical authors—including Bob Larson, Timothy Dailey, and Gary Bates—often argue that while UFOs exist as a physical or spiritual reality, they are of demonic rather than extraterrestrial origin (Wheeler 2026). The Islamic tradition, however, offers an expansive cosmological landscape that readily accommodates diverse lifeforms and technologies without requiring them to be inherently malevolent.

The Mother Plane and Non-human Intelligences

Parallel to the evangelical Christian view that anomalous craft are not alien, explicit belief in non-extraterrestrial spacecraft is a core tenet of some Muslim groups such as the Nation of Islam. Central to the Nation of Islam’s theology is the concept of the “Mother Plane”: a massive, circular craft, half a mile by half a mile, carrying some 1,500 “escort planes,” said to be the flying saucers people had been reporting. Wallace Fard Muhammad, the movement’s founder and original leader, taught that the vehicle was terrestrial rather than extraterrestrial in origin, built in Japan by “our Asiatic brothers” (Evanzz 1999).

Carrying significant eschatological and soteriological weight, the vessel later became a cornerstone of teachings under Fard’s successor, Elijah Muhammad, who, following Fard, identified the Mother Plane with the “wheel within a wheel” witnessed in the biblical vision of the prophet Ezekiel.

“As I looked at the living creatures, I saw a wheel on the earth beside the living creatures, one for each of the four of them. As for the appearance of the wheels and their construction: their appearance was like the gleaming of beryl, and the four had the same form, their construction being something like a wheel within a wheel. When they moved, they moved in any of the four directions without veering as they moved.”

Ezekiel 1:15-17

Many Muslims, however, point to the fact that the Quran itself encourages belief in intelligent extraterrestrial life. For example, throughout the Quran, God is called “Lord of the Worlds” (rabb al-ʿālamīn), and surah 42:29 states that God created “living creatures” throughout the heavens:

“And among His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth and whatever living creatures (dābbah) He has dispersed throughout them. And He has power to gather them when He wills.”

Classical Muslim exegetes often interpret these “living creatures” as angels, jinn, and other non-human intelligences, but some note that the Arabic term dābbah refers to “animals” or creatures that move across the earth (such as camels and horses) as well as an apocalyptic “beast.” Surah 27:82 describes this beast’s end-times emergence:

“When the verdict is given against them, We shall bring a creature out of the earth, which will tell them that people had no faith in Our revelations.”

The existence of angels and demons is, of course, known to many biblical and non-biblical religions. Yet Islam’s jinn (in English, genies) occupy a distinct ontological category: autonomous, intelligent beings that are neither inherently good nor evil, perhaps best described as “chaotic neutral” in their character. The Quran explicitly differentiates their nature from humanity’s in surah 55:14-15, declaring that God “created mankind out of dried clay, like pottery” and “the jinn out of smokeless fire.” This elemental distinction resurfaces in surah 7:12, where Iblis (Satan) justifies his refusal to bow to Adam by arguing, “I am better than him: You created me from fire and him from clay.”

Many non-Muslim UFO researchers, including Jacques Vallée and Jim Semivan, have said that at least some UFO encounters might be attributed to jinn (Vallée 1969; Strieber 2022). In some interpretations of Islamic texts, jinn are thought to be tricksters from whom special protection must be sought (Hussein 2024; Lomas et al. 2024). Perhaps foreshadowing the evangelical position that UFOs are demonic, Muslim exegesis of the Quran states that the creature Iblis, who becomes Satan, was originally a jinn (Wheeler 2002).

There are more specific instances of traditional Islamic narratives and ideas that are sometimes interpreted in terms familiar to more modern UFO abduction experiences. The prophet Muhammad, for example, is reported to have been transported through the night sky from Mecca to Jerusalem by a winged creature called the “Buraq,” after which he ascended through the seven heavens, a two-stage voyage known as the Isrāʾ (night journey) and Miʿrāj (ascension). The Quran references the first stage in surah 17:1:

“Glory to Him who made His servant travel by night from the sacred place of worship (al-masjid al-haram) to the furthest place of worship (al-masjid al-aqsa), whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him some of Our signs: He alone is the All Hearing, the All Seeing.”

Canonical hadith literature expands on the creature’s otherworldly nature. In a narration recorded in Sahih Muslim (hadith 162a), Anas b. Malik recounts the prophet Muhammad’s description of the Buraq:

“I was brought al-Buraq Who is an animal white and long, larger than a donkey but smaller than a mule, who would place his hoof a distance equal to the range of vision. I mounted it and came to the Temple (Bait Maqdis in Jerusalem), then tethered it to the ring used by the prophets.”

Lord of the Worlds

Drawing on the metaphysics of Ibn Sīnā, Suhrawardī, and Ibn al-ʿArabī, scholars have examined the ʿālam al-mithāl—an “intermediate realm” situated between earth and the heavens to which people can journey. As Henri Corbin observes in Spiritual Body and Celestial Earth (1977), this realm is populated by “archetypal celestial Figures which the active Imagination alone is able to apprehend,” an imaginative faculty that “unveils the hidden reality” rather than constructing “something unreal.” Corbin emphasizes that this realm is an ontologically concrete world containing subtle archetypes of material reality, reached not by bodily transit, but through visionary apperception.

Beyond this intermediate plane, however, Islamic theology also extends living creation to other realms of the physical cosmos. Consequently, some modern Muslim scholars argue that Islam is particularly well suited to accommodate belief in non-human extraterrestrial intelligent life (Hussein 2024). Unlike Christianity, in which a unique savior figure allows for redemption, Islamic theology holds that many thousands of prophets were sent, each with the same basic soteriological message. Other extraterrestrial civilizations could have received their own prophets carrying the same message as the one brought by Earth prophets (Allgood 2024).

This openness to intelligent life beyond a singular Earth is not merely a modern science fiction–inspired adaptation to Islam; it is grounded in both the Quran and centuries of Islamic scholarship. A foundational anchor appears in surah 65:12:

“It is God who created seven heavens and a similar [number] of earths. His command descends throughout them. So you should realize that He has power over all things and that His knowledge encompasses everything.”

Medieval Muslim exegetes and polymaths drew upon verses such as this to engage in vigorous debates over cosmic pluralism (the doctrine that multiple, layered worlds inhabited by sentience exist throughout creation). This strand of exegesis dates back to the ninth and tenth centuries, appearing in the foundational commentary of Ibn Jarīr al-Ṭabarī (d. 923 CE). Commenting on surah 65:12 in his Jāmiʿ al-Bayān, al-Ṭabarī documents an early narration from the prophet Muhammad’s companion Ibn ʿAbbas, who maintained that “in every earth there is the like of Abraham, and the like of whatever creation is upon this earth.”

This pluralistic vision expanded during the Islamic Golden Age. The influential Persian theologian and polymath Fakhr al-Dīn al-Rāzī (d. 1210 CE) explicitly argued against the Aristotelian model of a single, closed cosmos. In his final theological treatise al-Maṭālib al-ʿĀliyah, al-Rāzī contended that God’s infinite creative power cannot be bounded by a single sphere. Citing the Quranic epithet for God, “Lord of the Worlds” (rabb al-ʿālamīn), al-Rāzī asserted that there exist “a thousand thousand worlds beyond this world,” each potentially larger and populated with its own orders of creation (Setia 2004).

Later scholars preserved an even more explicit variation of Ibn ʿAbbas’s report; in his exegesis al-Durr al-Manthūr, the Egyptian scholar Jalāl al-Dīn al-Suyūṭī (d. 1505 CE) records Ibn ʿAbbas stating, “There are seven earths: in each earth is a prophet like your Prophet, an Adam like your Adam, a Noah like your Noah, an Abraham like your Abraham, and a Jesus like your Jesus.”

While exegetes debated the literal versus allegorical weight of this statement, its survival within the classical exegetical tradition highlights an early willingness to conceptualize parallel worlds inhabited by moral, sentient beings receiving prophetic guidance—an idea that loosely anticipates, by over a thousand years, physicist Hugh Everett’s many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics (Everett 1957).

Furthermore, Islamic scripture actively resists anthropocentrism. In surah 40:57, the Quran declares, “The creation of the heavens and earth is greater by far than the creation of mankind, though most people do not know it.” The cosmos functions as an ever-expanding theater of divine signs (āyāt) rather than a stage centered exclusively on human redemption, and surah 42:29, cited earlier, counts the living creatures dispersed throughout the heavens among those signs. Viewed through this cosmological framework, intelligent life throughout the universe serves as a direct testament to divine order.

Conclusions

From the ontological neutrality of the jinn to medieval debates over cosmic pluralism, the Islamic archive presents a metaphysics layered with worlds (ʿālamīn) that physical observation alone cannot exhaust. Consequently, much more research is needed into Islamic interpretations of UFO-related experiences, alongside Islamic religious experiences that can be interpreted through a UFO lens. Future scholarship can explore this intersection by examining the rich medieval treatises on the mechanics of communication between humans and non-human intelligences (e.g., angels, demons, and jinn), coupled with Sufi accounts of visionary journeys into the intermediate realm (ʿālam al-mithāl). Such an inquiry may yield a far more comprehensive model for anomalous encounters that traverse the boundaries between extrasensory perception, subtle realities, and the human condition.

ISSUE NO. 1 opens with some questions we’re genuinely obsessed with:

What does it mean to inhabit an apocalypse in its truest sense: an apokalypsis, the unveiling of forces long hidden beneath the surface of ordinary perception?

Does Eros operate as a real cosmological force?

Agape vs. Extropy: what is more foundational—or are both foundational? Does unconditional love (or universal love) refer to anything distinct, or does it reduce to a tendency toward order? Can love function as a term inside a physical theory of the universe, or does extropy (negentropy) offer the conceptual precision actually needed?

As we edge closer to a threshold, latent capacities written into our biology begin coming online: remote viewing, precognition, psychokinesis under specific conditions. What happens when human beings themselves are the technology?

Why did intelligence agencies pour serious resources into psi research, produce compelling results, and then classify or quietly bury the findings?

What changes in a scientific paradigm when consciousness becomes an experimental variable that refuses to behave like inert matter?

If the Promethean impulse is the theft of fire, what and whose fire is being stolen now?

Are psychic abilities emerging capacities or remembered ones? Are humans evolving toward something genuinely new, or debugging back to factory settings that had been overwritten?

If consciousness reaches backward through time, influences probability fields, or interfaces directly with matter: what does that mean for agency, free will, and the structure of reality itself?

Could time travel already be occurring through subtle feedback loops: retrocausal signals, prophetic cognition, memory leaking backward from probable futures?

Faster-Than-Light phenomena imply a breakdown of linear time itself, pointing toward a cosmos where information, intention, and consciousness move ahead of cause. Are “aliens” visitors from distant stars, or inhabitants of adjacent temporal strata: future humans, parallel intelligences, non-human minds intersecting our moment at points of rupture?

What does sovereignty mean beyond current digital and political structures? Can we build truly self-sustaining systems capable of supporting stellar civilization? What synergies exist between digital sovereignty and humanity’s cosmic trajectory?

When techne, intelligence, myth, and consciousness intensify beyond a certain threshold, does the Singularity arrive as invention, inevitability, or judgment?

What exactly is being revealed: an end, a reset, a bifurcation, a recursive time loop? And is any of this experienced uniformly, or does it diverge across timelines, species, and modes of being?

BLAXXKY listens closely to those working at the fault lines of physics, mysticism, philosophy, and lived anomaly. The first issue is the hardest to get off the ground. We don't have many paid subscribers yet, so we're running largely on unpaid labor and moving slowly. I’ve been reading “Thanosis” (2025), by . Here I’m writing down some thoughts on the book. See also ‘s thoughts and the book review titled “Promethean Voidwalker” by , recommended by Jorjani.

As usual with Jorjani’s works, in this book I find extremely valuable insights, entangled with a mythology that I personally find unnecessary. But I know that many people find Jorjani’s mythology appealing to the point of addiction, so it can be a good viral vector for his metaphysical insights.

I’ve written down my thoughts on Jorjani’s philosophy. I like it a lot, with some caveats. Essentially, I’m only interested in what I call the “hard metafysiks” part of Jorjani’s thinking. I don’t care much for what I call his mythology (and previously I called his conspiracy theories), but this doesn’t prevent me from enjoying and resonating with his hard metafysiks.

So here’s a philosopher I like writing about “a radical philosophical investigation of life after death, integrating parapsychological data with an ontological framework.”

I do a lot of speculating on what the fuck happens to us, personally, after death. This is a deep existential issue to me. OK, I know that I’ll find out what the fuck happens to me after death soon enough, but my existential speculations are also intellectually fun.

So how could I not dive into Jorjani’s book and devour it cover to cover in a few days?

The cosmos according to Jorjani “is a quantum computational simulacrum… that generates and sustains the appearances of ‘selves’ and ‘worlds’ alike.” The simulacrum is a maelstrom of consciousness, energies, and forces that are manifest in the phenomena studied by parapsychology research. Jorjani uses the term “Psychotronics” for new science that would study, and new technology that would command, “the interaction of consciousness, energy, and matter.”

Jorjani includes a comprehensive review of parapsychology research suggesting that the soul returns to the psychotronic maelstrom after death. This doesn’t mean that the self is annihilated by dispersion in the all. On the contrary, after death the soul keeps a certain degree of coherence while it is pushed around by psychotronic winds and storms.

Jorjani’s cosmos is not a peaceful whole without conflicts. Rather, it is “a battlefield of minds… each contending, colliding, and co-creating reality.” The soul is a pattern of information in this cosmic battlefield.

The world’s religions are evaluated against the phenomenal evidence produced by parapsychology research. Most religions entirely fail Jorjani’s test, but Buddhism gets at least something right. In particular, Jorjani appreciates parts of the Tibetan Book of the Dead.

The world is a simulacrum, that is, some kind of simulation like the simulated universe (or multiverse) of Rizwan Virk, complete with “timeline revision within a system that also governs reincarnation, postmortem persistence, and future-life projections.” In the simulacrum, some kind of psychotronic machinery railroads souls through different lives.

Jorjani wants to be a real philosopher with a total philosophy that seamlessly integrates science, hard metaphysics, and mythology. So his vision comes with a mythology consistent with his previous works. The psychotronic energies and forces that railroad us through different lifetimes are overseen and controlled by archons “who have used a spectral or psychotronic technology in order to transcend linear space-time.”

Before recycling us into new bodies, the archons harvest our emotions (joy, fear, love, despair, rage etc.) like “honey being taken from bees.” This honey serves as some kind of fuel for the psychotronic machinery. The impression I get is that of a chicken farm operated by sadistic farmers.

I find this difficult to believe. There’s only one being endowed with general intelligence whose inner life I know - myself - and I’m not cruel or sadistic. I would never harm another sentient being just for fun.

I’m no saint, but I guess I’m more compassionate than a crocodile, and this single data point seems to suggest that intelligence and compassion go together. So I find it difficult to imagine ultra-super beings that are cruel and sadistic. Wouldn’t they have something better to do than torturing little helpless chicken like us?

But let’s go back to “Thanosis.” The chicken farm thing is bad news. But the good news is that we can escape the chicken farm. Reincarnation is a programmable process that can be hacked, provided we enter the afterlife “with the rigor of pilots rather than the passivity of livestock” and navigate the simulacrum along a path of our own choosing.

We can use psychotronic technology to do this. But like in his other works, Jorjani’s concept of technology blends into things that many people wouldn’t call technology. When we think of technology, most of us have in mind the machines and gadgets that we are familiar with, perhaps with some little or big improvements. But to Jorjani, “symbolic machines” made of symbols alone, without material technology that we would recognize as such, also work. John Campbell, the legendary editor of “Astounding” and the father of Golden Age science fiction, built symbolic machines that, according to him and other enthusiasts, worked.

I like Campbell, even if he said some bullshit now and then. I also like Jorjani. In particular, I like his generalized concept of technology and his view of technology as “ontologically prior to the natural phenomena” studied by science [Jorjani 2020]. Yet, a dumb physicist and engineer like me would like to see a conceptually clear bridge between the sci/tech of today and that of tomorrow. The essence of technology and science is that they help us make useful things. Psychotronics sounds totally useful, but how can we move from today’s sci/tech to psychotronics? What are the intermediate steps?

I’ve no in-principle objections to the idea that special rituals and symbols may unlock latent powers and enable us to do awesome things using the bare power of the mind alone, instead of conventional machines. Actually, I suspect this is the case indeed. But I would like some kind of explanation of how this may work, in my native language of today’s speculative sci/tech.

Jorjani uses scientific words like quantum entanglement and makes intriguing analogies with computer science, but he prefers to stay in the no-man’s land between science, metaphysics, and mythology.

However, his practical advice is to use the psychotronic technology of symbolic machines to train our mind and prepare to enter the afterlife as a Promethean hero, ready to kick some ass and take control from the archons. This requires “a paramilitary discipline of consciousness” and a mastery of the practical aspects of psychotronics. As sovereign souls, we can hack the simulacron and become programmers ourselves.

I love this! If we don’t like how the cosmos works, we can and must hack the cosmic machinery and make it do what we want. For this defiant and extremely important insight, I give five stars to Jorjani’s new book, and I forgive him for adding a dark mythology to his metaphysical insights. I agree with him on many things, including his appreciation of William James and his adamant dismissal of any model of reality that doesn’t make room for free will.

I read Jorjani’s mythology as science fiction, without taking it too seriously. But I see that others take it very seriously, to the point of addiction. I hope Jorjani’s dark and addictive mythology can be a viral vector for his overall metaphysics, which is essentially close to mine.

I conducted my first experiment with the Hemi-Sync Gateway Experience (or “Gateway Tapes”) on the evening of Thursday, December 4th at around 21:20 in Crete. I wanted to first trial Hemi-Sync via a pirated file, before committing to making a purchase. I got this FLAC copy.

I fasted all day: I just had 1 cup of black tea for breakfast, and otherwise drank water. In the evening, I made myself some tea (Cretan Mountain Tea, with Iranian Saffron, with 1tsp of Cretan Honey) and start getting set up in my bedroom. I burned some sacred copal to clear the space.

I start to pace around the house in confusion, trying to find my headphones.

I JUST HAD THEM, I thought they were on my desk. I don’t see them and I can’t find them yet.

After a few minutes of walking up and down the house, I eventually find them: they are on the floor near my desk, with the headphone wires UNDERNEATH my office chair.

This is BIZARRE to me since I BARELY move around my office chair. Even though they have wheels, IT IS NOT EASY TO MOVE the chair since the chair is on top of a rug. Typically to move the chair, I have to stand up and push the chair with my arms.

Additionally, I don’t remember placing the headphones on the floor—I would have naturally placed them on top of my desk.

So the headphones ended up both 1) on the floor and 2) with my office chair moved on top of the headphone’s wires.

So before I can even begin my first Hemi-Sync experiment, it seems as if a trickster has generated some kind of anomalous experience or mystery for me:

Regardless, I proceeded to my bedroom, bringing my laptop and headphones with me to finish up my environmental setup. The instructions say the room shouldn’t have any light.

I retracted the blackout blinds so no light enters from the outside world and subsequently covered up other light sources (like the on/off switch of my electric heater, which had these small circular red power-on indicators) in a hacky way using supplies I had on hand (masking tape and thick card stock paper).

On my laptop, I accessed the Wave I - Discovery folder and then double-clicked on the file CD 1 - 1 - Orientation.flac, which launched open Audacity (a free and open source audio editing and recording app, which has the capability to playback FLAC files).

For Wave I, I ended up making it through the entire file CD 1 - 1 - Orientation.flac and the first 5 minutes of CD 1 - 2 - Introduction to Focus 10.flac. I aborted the experiment because I was unable to override a paranoid feeling that while listening, I am being recruited to become a psychic soldier in some kind of decentralized mind control program that is associated to an occulted facet of a Project Stargate that never ended. (See VM.00002.01 and VM.00002.03)

My intention for the evening was to make it through the entire set of Wave I files. I definitely started to feel some impact on my body near the end of the Orientation file — there was a tingling sensation all over my body, like I was in some kind of cocoon-like space pod, and where I could start to feel a kind of subtle membrance between my information matrix (soul) and my body. I have done body scan meditations before, and the sensation felt similar. My initial attempt at describing this is conveyed in VM.00002.02.

Even though the Orientation file felt like it was doing something unique to my body that I was curious to explore more, as soon as I started Introduction to Focus 10, I felt like I had to stop, as I wasn’t able to overwrite my paranoia.

The major challenges for me when listening to the “Tapes”:

1. There seemed to be some kind of irregular background frequency set that was freaking me out a bit. At this point, it is unclear to me if the sound wave was part of the file, or something generated by the binaural tones. I haven’t done any waveform analysis yet.

2. I didn’t resonate with voice-over guided instructions about reaching out to external guides that have more wisdom than me, as this kind of programming is the opposite of the Psychic Space I’ve outlined for reaching The Aletheion. In the text instructions for the Gateway Experience, it says you can override this with your own intentions, but the existence of the default instructions were still bothering me.

More on the irregular background frequency set:

It felt a bit like if I continued to allow that frequency set to meddle with my consciousness, that the place that I would reach once I have an Out-of-Body-Experience (OBE) will be a specific Psychic Space that is more dialed into this frequency set, as opposed to a place where I have full control.

Like for example, imagine that the Monroe Institute has created something like a spaceship in the Astral, and you can get onto this spaceship if you make your consciousness resonant with it. How do you make your consciousness resonant with it? Well, you listen to the Hemi-Sync Gateway Tapes.

It seems like I will definitely go somewhere if I continue to listen to these audio files and work harder to overwrite my doubt about some hidden agenda associated to them.

But since it didn’t feel like I’d be astral projecting to a realm of sovereignty, I stopped.

There are others who have cautioned against the Gateway Tapes, like “Jake Knows Nothing” on YouTube. He said that he actually experimented with it for many years and had a lot of crazy experiences, and then he started to feel like the tapes were familiar to him, and eventually he realized that he had heard the audio files before when he was a child in the GATE program, which is rumored to be a psychic recruitment program:

Additionally, if you read Chris Bledsoe’s UFO of God, you might begin to have suspicious energy when it comes to the Monroe Institute, as Bledsoe seems to have been social engineered (from my reading of the Chapter 29 passages) by retired US colonel John B. Alexander and someone who seems like he is his associate, David Broadwell.

Colonel John Alexander wrote to me in September 2021. Over the years, we had our usual conversations about our experiences with the phenomena, but this time there was a rare urgency in his email. He wanted me to get in touch with David Broadwell, who had a communicative experience with the phenomena in northern Virginia. I was happy to do John a favor and put it on my list.

And sure enough, a few moments later a second one appeared behind the first, travelling in the same direction at the same speed, and then a third. David reached in his pocket, grabbed his cellphone, and began filming. He looked at me and said, “My God Chris, John told me you had a connection with them. This is incredible.”

Eventually Emily and Jack returned and we went back inside to eat. As we were finishing up, David suddenly had an idea.

“Chris,” he said, in a flash of inspiration, “I have got to get you to Monroe.”

I had no idea what he was talking about but he explained that the Monroe Institute was the premiere center for research into the deepest aspects of consciousness. Using all manner of technology, especially audio-based experiments, the institute had pioneered consciousness research and was committed to the exploration of what is beyond space and time.

At this moment, the idea for a secret gathering at Monroe was born, one that would harness the sound technologies of the institute to explore the experiences we had been having. These technologies are specifically designed to enhance the ability of remote viewing and telekinesis, and we hoped that if we could gather a group of highly-attuned UFO experiencers, we might enhance and better understand this pre-cognitive state.

I was excited by David’s enthusiasm, and he set off to bring the conference into being. Meanwhile we agreed that we would continue our own experiments of coordinating our experiences of the sightings. It had become apparent that every time I spoke with David on the phone, we would witness the phenomena at the same time. Is this what Albert Einstein famously referred to as quantum entanglement—the ability of separated objects to share a condition or state—as “spooky action at a distance”?

Soon David was able to obtain permission from the Monroe Institute board to hold a private, invitation-only conference in May of 2022. The goal was to bring together a group of experiencers and researchers that share the same intention, and over a five-day period use Monroe’s technologies to interact with the phenomena. It was an eclectic bunch that finally gathered, ranging from a Hollywood actress and psychic medium to a world-renowned UFO explorer [Rob Freeman]. There were ex-military, including John Alexander, a government employee, university professors, a podcaster, a hippie, a Brit, Argentinian, and a cigar-smoking Texan for good measure. In short, every kind of person was there, all united by their experience with the phenomena and a passionate desire to learn and explore.

From this passage, one can extrapolate that John Alexander wanted Chris Bledsoe to talk to Broadwell, to get Bledsoe to the Monroe Institute (which had potentially already cleared the conference happening there, before Broadwell brought it up to Bledsoe).

To Bledsoe, the idea of going to the Monroe Institute felt like Broadwell’s random inspiration.

But this is where I begin to question — were the synchronous experiences with orbs that Broadwell shared with Bledsoe — were they even real or was it part of some social engineering operation?

Who is David Broadwell? He is definitely not a “public experiencer” — if you try to search for records of him talking about his experiences like on YouTube, not much is found.

Abstract

The Ideon Cave in Crete carries a memory of the first apocalyptic passage of the gods that portends each technical recreation of the world. Hesiod tells of how the goddess Rhea “hid [Zeus] in a remote cave beneath the secret places of the holy earth”, before Zeus led the Olympian gods to overthrow the old king Cronos and cast out the Titans. In the Statesman (269c-274d), Plato presents a new version of this myth, in which the ‘Divine Pilot’ (Theios Kybernētēs) rationally controls a cosmic “living creature” (Anima Mundi), “endowed with reason” by the divine Mind (Nous), and “framed” by the architecture of celestial mechanics. The collapse of this cybernetic system - from the first age of Cronos, when “God was supreme governor”, to this subsequent age of Zeus, when “the pilot of the ship of the universe” has “let go the handle of its rudder” - results in the “cosmic crisis” of mortality, and of an intergenerational loss of memory, which requires - as both a remedy and poison - Prometheus to steal the gift of fire, and Haphaestus to invent technology. Yet, as Plato warns (Phaedrus, 274b–279b), the invention of writing, as an external aid to memory (hypomnēsis), can, in contrast to living recollection (anamnēsis), also become an occasion for increased forgetting, and, in our age of digital computer writing, for the compounding meta-crises that afflict modernity.

Drawing on Diotima’s speech in Plato’s Symposium (201e-205e), Simone Weil developed a theory of mediation as the aesthetic self-limitation of cycles of destructive force, which she observed reaching their height in the technical-bureaucratic apparatuses of the 20th century. While the erotic foundations of beauty are always structured around a lack, Weil calls for this lack to be oriented again towards its fulfillment in agapeic transcendence, which is preserved through a mystical decreation of our narcissistic imaginations, and which becomes ever-more concrete through an incarnational mediation of sacred harmonic and geometric correlations. Drawing, in a similar way on Henri Bergson’s ‘creative evolution’, Teilhard de Chardin prophesied that the evolution of technical nature would culminate in the ‘Omega-point’ reversal of thermodynamic entropy, an ever-more ecstatic growth in the ‘Noosphere’ of celestial intelligence, and in the ultimate overcoming of Plato’s ‘cosmic crisis’ through a free recognition of the ‘hyperpersonality’ that abides at the center of cosmotechnics and every cybernetic system.

I also outlined the related idea, proposed by several scientists and in particular by Laurent Nottale, that spacetime itself is not smooth but fractal, with bumps at all scales, and quantum behavior follows. General relativity lives in a smooth spacetime, but quantum mechanics lives in a rough, fractal, fractured spacetime. A particle bumps into an irregularity in the fractal structure of spacetime and changes course, then it bumps into another irregularity, and in between the two there’s an infinite number of bumps and the particle changes course an infinite number of times.

I’ve been watching two recent episodes of Joe Rogan’s podcast. 

One episode is a conversation with physicist and space engineer Harold “Sonny” White. One often hears White’s name in connection with “crazy” space propulsion ideas like the Alcubierre warp drive or the much maligned EmDrive. White also researches creative ways to extract energy from the “zero point field” of quantum fluctuations in the vacuum.

He has founded a company that wants to build nanotechnology able to leverage the Casimir effect to extract zero point energy from the quantum vacuum. The Casimir effect was first theorized by physicist Hendrik Casimir and then confirmed in the laboratory. When two parallel metal plates are very close to each other in the vacuum, there is a force that pulls them closer. White explains that this force comes from fluctuating fields in the quantum vacuum.

Another episode is a conversation with maverick physicist Hal Puthoff, renowned (or maligned) for his work in unconventional scientific areas, including remote viewing and unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP). Puthoff has also been involved (bigtime) in the physics of the zero point field.

In the afterword to his science fiction novel “3001: The Final Odissey,” Arthur Clarke said that a 1994 paper by Puthoff, Bernard Haisch, and Alfonso Rueda, “may one day be regarded as a landmark paper.” In the novel, Clarke imagines a space drive known as the SHARP drive (Sakharov, Haisch, Rueda and Puthoff). Puthoff and his co-authors built on a concept first advanced by Andrei Sakharov.

“Based on earlier work by Sakharov, this purports to explain the origin of inertia - the intrinsic ‘sluggishness’ of all matter when any attempt is made to change its velocity (Newton again - the first law),” explained Clarke. “The paper argues that gravitational and inertial forces are due to the enormous energies (‘zero point fluctuations’) that pervade all space, even the so-called vacuum itself.”

“If I were a NASA administrator,” Clarke concluded, “I’d get my best, brightest, and youngest (no one over twenty-five need apply) to take a long, hard look at the Puthoff equations.”

“I have found a way to extract a small amount of energy from the electromagnetic fluctuations of the vacuum,” noted Robert Forward. “It is a vacuum fluctuation ‘battery’ and it is based on the Casimir effect.” This is the same effect upon which Sonny White is trying to build nano devices to extract energy from the quantum vacuum.

Puthoff’s collaborator Bernard Haisch as well has co-founded a company that wants to extract energy from quantum vacuum fluctuations.

Bernard Haisch also wrote books (1, 2) that link the physics of zero point vacuum fluctuations to fundamental physics, consciousness, and even a concept of God.

I’ve been reading Haisch’s books. The zero point field, he says, could explain quantum behavior, explain the origin of inertia, and be tapped as an inexhaustible source of energy on this planet and for interstellar propulsion. Not bad!

Zero point physics is based on stochastic electrodynamics, that is, the mathematical study of an ocean of random electromagnetic waves that fills the universe. In his recent book on hydrodynamic quantum analogues (HQA),  Adam Forrest Kay notes that stochastic electrodynamics “actually tries to provide a picture of sub-quantum reality and explain things.”

Stochastic electrodynamics “is a useful computational tool,” explains Haisch, “even if you do not take the simplified approximations of stochastic electrodynamics completely literally (which you shouldn't).”

In fact, stochastic electrodynamics can only be a simplified approximation because it is based on the electromagnetic field alone and doesn’t take into account other vacuum fields. 

The authors of a textbook on stochastic electrodynamics admit this. All vacuum fields “could contribute to the fundamental stochastic behavior of matter on the microscopic level,” they say. But at the scales to which quantum mechanics is most frequently applied, it is the electromagnetic vacuum that plays the pivotal role. “At deeper levels or for systems of another sort,” they add, “it may well be that other vacua become relevant.”

Kay suggests that gravitation may be involved. This could “create a connection between general relativity and quantum mechanics,” he says. “But so far this idea is like all proposals for the subquantum field in HQA: extremely speculative.”

So I consider stochastic electrodynamics as a simplified model of the zero point field, which should and will certainly be expanded and refined.

This brings me to my favorite conceptual models of the zero point field, which I outlined in Chapter 11 of “Irrational mechanics.” In the chapter I discuss current research on the quantum vacuum as a material substrate analogous to condensed matter like superfluids. I also discuss Edward Nelson’s stochastic formulation of quantum mechanics based on “a kind of Brownian motion that agitates all particles of matter.”

In the same chapter I say: “Like Nelson, David Bohm underlined the analogy between quantum paths and Brownian motion. But unlike Nelson, Bohm also proposed a more or less detailed model of what happens behind the scenes. In Bohm’s theory, quantum particles are pushed around by a fluctuating field called ‘quantum potential.’”

I should have used better wording, because this is kind of misleading. Bohm did not propose a detailed model of what happens behind the scenes, but limited himself to defining his quantum potential in a way that reproduces some aspects of known quantum mechanics. He repeatedly hinted at sub-quantum physics that could be the origin of quantum fluctuations, but didn’t propose a detailed model. He just speculated, like Nelson, that quantum fluctuations could be derived from “a deeper sub-quantum-mechanical level, in much the same way that the fluctuations in the Brownian motion of a microscopic liquid droplet come from a deeper atomic level.”

This is highly speculative science, but I sense that it’s becoming more and more respected. Christian Jooss, a physicist with evident Marxist sympathies, seems to like these ideas.

So zero point science could explain quantum behavior and the origin of inertia, not to mention the physics of UAPs, and zero-point engineering could give us unlimited energy and take us to the stars. What else is the zero point field good for?

Well, Haisch believes that the zero point field “may, in fact, be an expression of God.” His God is pure consciousness, and gives rise to physical worlds with conscious inhabitants like us. We are splinters of universal consciousness, “by which he is able to know himself.”

Haisch speculates that the zero point field could “possibly be a manifestation of the Ein Sof.” This is a Jewish traditional name for the state of God before creation. Haisch establishes parallels with the Akashic field of Theosophy and Eastern spiritual traditions. This is a cosmic memory field that stores “Akashic records” of everything that ever happens.

Haisch mentions UAPs, but doesn’t speculate much on remote viewing and other paranormal phenomena. But it seems to me that the possibility of accessing some kind of Akashic records through the zero point field would open the door to all sorts of paranormal phenomena and occult experiences.

I suspect that really advanced aliens could be superintelligent balls of quantum fields or whatever sub-quantum weirdness comes underneath quantum fields. If so, there’s no good mental picture of them that we can form at this moment. But there are mental pictures of strange aliens that are much closer to home in the sense that they are based on more or less understood physics - and perhaps, as we’ll see, also much closer to home in a literal sense.

Perhaps the stars are living entities. Perhaps plasmas are intelligent beings. Perhaps there are superintelligent cosmic clouds of plasma near the Earth, which could be related to all sorts of paranormal phenomena.

In “A New Science of Heaven” (2022), Robert Temple argues that plasmas can be said to be “living, intelligent and conscious.” There are good reasons to believe, he says, that “plasma, with its ordering properties, can in certain circumstances be in some sense alive and can evolve intelligence.”

Plasmas are ionized, electromagnetically active matter. Typical plasmas are gaseous and much more tenuous than “regular” matter. Plasma “is the most common state of matter in the Universe - it accounts for more than 95% of the matter visible to us in stars, planets, and exoplanets” (source).

Olaf Stapledon imagined creatures of plasma that live and thrive in the sun and other stars. In a science fiction short story titled “Out of the Sun,” Arthur Clarke took us to an observatory on Mercury where an astronomer observes the Sun. A plasma creature, just like those imagined by Stapledon, is ejected from the Sun and comes to crash on the “cold” surface of Mercury.

“For what is life but organised energy?,” Clarke says. “Does it matter what form that energy takes - whether it is chemical, as we know it on Earth, or purely electrical, as it seemed to be here? Only the pattern is important; the substance itself is of no significance. But at the time I did not think of this; I was conscious only of a vast and overwhelming wonder as I watched this creature of the sun live out the final moments of its existence. Was it intelligent?”

Perhaps, Temple argues, some plasma beings are superintelligent and God-like.

I felt the need to double check if the many scientists quoted by Temple really said the things that he attributes to them. It turns out that, as far as I can tell, yes they did. Four plasma physics researchers often quoted by Temple also dropped sober but suggestive hints in a textbook: some phenomena in complex plasmas “resemble those of biological systems.” The question of “a different type of ‘life’ formed by self-organized complex plasma structures arises naturally,” they say. “Some aspects of ‘memory’ in complex plasma helical structures are indeed possible. The competition and evolution processes of complex plasma’s self-organized structures is a possible topic for future investigations.”

The authors of the textbook, and Temple, focus on dusty plasmas with lots of embedded solid micro-particles (dust) that “range in sizes from sub-nanometer to several hundred micrometer scales.” Dusty plasmas can be complex plasmas with collective emergent and autopoietic behaviours. We speak of autopoiesis when a physical system can maintain and reproduce itself.

Plasma research seems entirely based on understood and therefore not sexy enough mainstream physics. But looks can be deceiving, and there are many mysterious phenomena in plasmas, especially when it comes to quantum effects and the interactions of plasmas with the geometry of spacetime on the one hand, and biology on the other hand. If you want to read a great science fiction novel on the mysterious physics of the plasma universe, read “Ball Lightning” by Cixin Liu. Ball lightning is thought to be a plasma phenomenon, a coherent structure of plasma called a plasmoid.

Temple tells us that there are two large clouds of plasma, known as Kordylewski clouds, located at the Lagrange Points L4 and L5 of the Earth–Moon system. Temple suggests that the clouds could be conscious cosmic beings much more intelligent and powerful than us.

“The storage capacity for information would easily include the ability to retain full knowledge of everything that has ever happened in our local cosmic environment for four billion years,” reads one of the most suggestive passages. “The presiding consciousnesses… of the two clouds will have personalities so alien from our own that we cannot conceive of them.”

We might have gigantic intelligent clouds on our doorstep, “which are billions of times more intelligent than any little green man could ever be.”

The clouds could be monitoring the Earth and us and sending down “plasmic drones” for reconnaissance, too tenuous to be detected. Ball lightning phenomena could be reconnaissance drones of this sort. In general, this could be a good explanation for UFO/UAP sightings.

Temple goes to great lengths to show that many of the religious stories and reports of paranormal phenomena that have been with us for centuries can be reinterpreted in the light of his ideas. He considers the possibility that the deities and spiritual beings that have reportedly communicated with people could be plasma beings. If you have seen or even communicated with otherworldly entities, perhaps they were plasma beings.

Temple also delves into the fascinating topic of biophotonics and bioplasmas. We could have plasma bodies parallel to our physical bodies. Our plasma bodies could be responsible for many unexplained occult phenomena and for the auras around us that some people claim to be able to see. Our plasma bodies could survive the death of our physical bodies and keep some version of our consciousness around in a cloud of intelligent plasma. This is a nice concept of the afterlife.

Or, I wish to add, our plasma “soul” could be recorded by plasmic drones at the moment of death and taken to the Kordylewski clouds. This is a nice concept of heaven. “Everyone who has ever lived will be recorded,” says Temple. “Every creature that has ever roamed the surface of the Earth will be recorded. Every plant which has ever grown will be as well.”

My favorite quote from Temple’s book: “When someone shouts ‘crazy’ at you, put your fingers in your ears and carry on.”

In another intriguing book titled “Starlight Starbright: Are Stars Conscious?” (2021), Greg Matloff suggests that stars, or at least those stars that meet certain conditions, could be conscious beings. The idea is found in Olaf Stapledon science fiction masterpiece “Star Maker” and has been explored by other science fiction writers.

Matloff prefers not to speculate about the level of stellar consciousness, which may be “at the level of a classical god or no higher than that of a slime mold amoeba,” he says.

Like Temple’s book, Matloff’s book is packed with frontier science and visions from the best science fiction.

Both books are page turners and a pleasure to read, full of new concepts and connections to interesting science and spiritual traditions. Do I “believe” what they say? Let me answer like this: I believe some of these ideas are very interesting and could spark new, important insights in science and spirituality. Therefore, I don’t dismiss them and I’m waiting for time to tell.

The central thesis of Plotnitsky is that the unthinkable, the inconceivable, or to use his favorite term the alogonal, is indispensable in mathematics and science. The alogon, “that which is strictly inconceivable or incomprehensible, unthinkable,” is part of the logos. Mathematics and science would grind to a halt without unthinkable concepts and inconceivable thoughts.

The early mathematicians of the Greek school of Pythagoras could not conceive of irrational numbers as numbers, because their concept of number was a rational number that is the ratio of two integers. Yet the Pythagoreans discovered that the square root of two is not a rational number and made room for irrational numbers in their thinking. This is a “radically Pythagorean” stance.

Another simple example of alogonal, radically Pythagorean thinking in mathematics is the origin story of complex numbers. Renaissance mathematicians like Girolamo Cardano used the inconceivable square root of minus one in their algebraic calculations. First reluctantly - Cardano himself called it “sophistry” [Brooks 2017] - then more and more confidently.

The square roots of minus one and other negative numbers are inconceivable as numbers, because the square of any number, positive or negative, is always positive. Yet these numbers, which mathematicians came to call imaginary numbers, played a more and more important role in mathematics and physics. Today, imaginary numbers are not only used in all sorts of scientific calculations, but also play an absolutely vital and inescapable foundational role in quantum mechanics [Chapters 9-11 of Prisco 2024].

We now see imaginary numbers as complex numbers. Complex numbers (for example, two plus pi (3.14…) times i, where i is the imaginary square root of minus one) are ordered pairs of real numbers (in the example, two and pi) with a certain algebra. This is conceptually clear, but imaginary numbers are still unthinkable as numbers: an ordered pair of numbers is not a number.

Yet, the unthinkable complex numbers are often very useful and at times indispensable to work with thinkable numbers. Studying the complex zeta function of Bernhard Riemann has opened the door to important insights on the distribution of prime numbers among the integers (what could seem more unrelated to complex numbers than simple integer numbers?). The Riemann hypothesis that the interesting zeros of the zeta function are confined to a certain line in the complex plane is unproven (perhaps it is undecidable in the sense of Gödel?), but a proof could shed more light on the distribution of prime numbers.

Riemann is one of the heroes of Plotnitsky’s book. He was one of the mathematicians that jumpstarted the study of non-Euclidean geometries upon which Albert Einstein’s general relativity is based, as well as much of contemporary physics. Warped non-Euclidean geometries are not strictly inconceivable because there are analogies with surfaces in Euclidean three-dimensional space to help our intuition, but some higher-dimensional warped geometries are totally beyond our intuition.

To Plotnitsky, physics is the study of reality without realism, by which he means that ultimate reality is beyond our ability to conceive and that’s that. Quantum theory, he says, “made this reality alogonal.”

The origin story of quantum mechanics is similar to that of imaginary numbers. A new and unthinkable type of particle was introduced to make sense of what particles like electrons do in the real world. The new imaginary particles called quantum particles are strictly inconceivable because they must be allowed to behave in unthinkable ways, like being in two places at the same time, but they help get the job done with calculations that have always given the correct answer (that is, predicted actual experimental results) so far.

Plotnitsky dives into the early (but perhaps not yet fully understood) interpretations of quantum physics proposed by Werner Heisenberg and Niels Bohr. Physics must limit itself to talk about what can be actually observed (measured), and refrain from introducing concepts and pictures of what happens between observations.

Plotnitsky often cites Heisenberg’s book “Physics and Philosophy” [Heisenberg 1962]. A key quote is “There is no description of what happens to the system between the initial observation and the next measurement.…The demand to ‘describe what happens’ in the quantum-theoretical process between two successive observations is a contradiction in adjecto, since the word ‘describe’ refers to the use of classical concepts, while these concepts cannot be applied in the space between the observations; they can only be applied at the points of observation.”

So what is a particle, really? The question must remain unanswered.

The best we can do is to think of elementary particles as mathematical abstractions like “irreducible representations of the corresponding symmetry groups,” says Plotnitsky, “new mathematical ‘atoms,’ which I shall call ‘Galois atoms.’” Évariste Galois, a 19th century mathematician, was one of the originators of group theory, a branch of mathematics that helps deal with the weirdest aspects of physics.

I agree with Plotnitsky that our science needs unthinkable concepts and inconceivable thoughts to advance. Our mind is the product of evolution, and we didn’t evolve to eat, or escape from, Galois atoms. Our mind can only think of certain things in certain ways, because evolution has selected for us those thinkable things and those ways to conceive them.

Reflecting on Plotnitsky’s ideas on mathematics and physics, I find parallels with what I call irrational mechanics [Prisco 2024]. Should I call my ideas alogonal mechanics?

But I’ll stick with my favorite label because there are differences as well.

I think what is beyond our mind today will not stay beyond our mind forever. In particular, we are developing artificial intelligence (AI) [Chapter 12 of Prisco 2024] that could soon vastly exceed our cognitive abilities and think the unthinkable (from our current perspective). Those AIs are likely to eventually replace us, but I include them and all sorts of conceivable (or inconceivable) human/AI hybrids in my concept of “we.”

Irrational and imaginary numbers were first introduced as inconceivable entities but then they have been gradually brought into the realm of the thinkable and today we introduce them to students in simple ways without conceptual problems. Today, we have adapted to and are prepared to think of numbers beyond integers, rational, and real numbers.

A similar adaptation hasn’t happened yet for quantum mechanics, and many people including experts still find quantum particles inconceivable and impossible to think of. Quantum mechanics seems hopelessly weird, and alogonal.

But is quantum mechanics so weird, really? We think of things called particles and conceive them as little marbles too small to be seen. We see big marbles and our experiments detect little particles that are in one place only. But the most accurate and useful mathematical description of reality that we’ve found so far is based on entities called wavefunctions. The wavefunction associated with one or more particles is a (complex) function that is best thought of as a probability amplitude, whose (real) absolute value is a probability. Quantum mechanics predicts the probability of finding the particles in certain places, and there’s nothing weird.

OK, but what about entanglement and spooky actions at a distance [Chapters 9-11 of Prisco 2024]? The clearest answer is that amplitudes and probabilities are not things that propagate in space. Like, if one ticket wins the lottery, the probability that another ticket wins the lottery becomes zero wherever the other ticket is, instantaneously, and there’s nothing weird in this.

According to Heisenberg and Bohr, this is all we can say and that’s that. Perhaps Heisenberg and Bohr are right? I’m a less-is-more thinker, and I find their minimalist positivism appealing.

Yet, I think quantum mechanics is not the final word and consider the possibility that it might be replaced by new physics of sub-quantum reality very likely. I also think intuitive concepts are essential to advance. So I like to think of the unconceivable, in quantum physics and elsewhere, with simple analogies that give a certain flavor of how it could be conceived.

Interpretation of quantum mechanics like those of Everett [Carroll 2019] and Bohm [Kay 2024, Bricmont 2016, 2017], assisted by the mathematics of decoherence, suggest thinkable pictures of what happens behind the scenes. So I keep an open mind, and time will tell.

When I thought of the name I was inspired by Rachel Armstrong’s concept of Black Sky Thinking (1, 2) and by blaxxun, a legendary early virtual reality (VR) company whose name was in turn inspired by the VR club Black Sun in Neal Stephenson’s novel “Snow Crash.”

In the meantime has launched Black Sky Society and I have joined it. So we’ve launched this website as a Black Sky Society media outlet.

This website is called BLAXXKY (or Blaxxky, or blaxxky) dot com. It lives on Substack with the custom domain blaxxky.com. It can be accessed as https://www.blaxxky.com/ and https://blaxxky.com/ (which is redirected to https://www.blaxxky.com/). https://blaxxky.substack.com/ also works.

I’m known for writing weird stuff about science, philosophy, metaphysics and even (God forbid) religion, but be warned, my writings so far are a model of unimaginative restraint compared to the wild unhinged weirdness (but, mind you, high quality weirdness) that you’ll see here. But I like the idea of being in a room with people weirder than me.

Here, I’ll try and be more unhinged myself. I’ll forget plausible deniability and write freely about *really* wild sci/tech & philosophy and the mystic normalcy of paranormal (aka psi) phenomena.

In all my books I’ve said that occult paranormal phenomena are totally compatible with my worldview. For example, in my last book I said: “I think psi research is important and needed, and don’t rule out the possibility that it could result in big scientific breakthroughs.” But I haven’t delved deep into psi so far. I intend to do so here.
